The challenge

CrossField is a heart-rate-variability app that helps people build a calmer daily practice. The hard part isn't the first session — it's coming back. Most wellness apps lose people quietly in week two.

The brief: a weekly email that keeps people connected to their practice. It had to feel personal and calming — never pushy — while still doing the retention job of pulling someone back into the app. And it had to render cleanly across every inbox, from Gmail to Apple Mail to Outlook.

The approach

  1. Lead with the person, not the product — the email opens with a personalized line (“Hi Alex — one small thing this week”) and a single clear action, so the reader feels seen before they’re asked for anything.
  2. Give the data meaning — a “Your week in coherence” block turns numbers (days practised, calmest reading, weekly trend) into a gentle progress story instead of a dashboard.
  3. One idea per section — a reframe, a 5-minute practice, a community voice, and one “what’s new.” Each block earns its place; nothing competes for the same tap.
  4. Build it to survive the inbox — a table-based, merge-tag-driven template with mobile-first spacing and safe web fonts, so every subscriber gets the same calm layout wherever they open it.
